WHAT IS THE EMERGENCY FOOD & SHELTER PROGRAM?

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) is a FEMA-funded program authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987. The program supplements and expands ongoing work of local nonprofit and governmental social service organizations to provide shelter, food and supportive services to individuals and families who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, hunger and/or homelessness.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF FEDERAL FUNDS FOR EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAMS (EFSP) — ARPA-R AND PHASE 42

 
Local non-profit agencies whose mission and capabilities have demonstrated the ability to provide emergency food and shelter programs for the homeless can apply for Phase 42 and ARPA-R funding through a Federal grant to San Joaquin County; made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
 
For Phase 42, we anticipate receiving an allocation of $425,000 based on prior years allocations.  
 
Additionally, $1.3 million in ARPA-R funds are available for eligible organizations to address urgent community needs related to food and shelter.
 
The funds are designed to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs in San Joaquin County. Local organizations chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs and have a volunteer board of directors. 
 
 

APPLICATION DEADLINES

 
Completed applications for ARPA-R funds must be submitted no later than 5:00PM on Friday, December 6, 2024.
