H.O.P.E. Family Shelters, also known as Hope Ministries Inc., is located in Manteca, CA. Their objective is to reduce homelessness in the community by providing the homeless with food, shelter, as well as various programs and services to aid them in becoming occupationally and residentially independent. Hope Ministries Inc. are currently housing homeless women, children, as well as single fathers with children. Their mission statement states that they are a “non-profit, faith based organization dedicated to providing shelter and services to homeless and low-income families that cultivate self-respect, self-reliance, and spiritual direction in order to strengthen families, individuals, and the community.” Various churches fund the individual rooms that house the residents to provide them with a clean environment and a safe and personal place.
Residents of Hope Ministries Inc. are also given support through “Project Hope,” which is a project with the goal of strengthening families and empowering them by giving them life skills that will lead them towards success and brighter futures. Residents are required to participate in various chores during their stay and to attend several workshops, such as resume building workshops. Recently, a United Way grant has funded Hope Ministries Inc. with their first ever computer lab to make this process easier. After acquiring resume-building skills through the workshop, residents now have access to computers that allow them to construct and print out their resumes, thus arming them for their occupational endeavors and journey towards an independent life.
